Musashi’s words sent a different kind of chill through Kumi, as if an invisible presence was stalking her through the mist. For a long moment, both were silent. Kumi swallowed hard and, to keep from panicking, forced herself to focus on the present.
—Debo buscar agua —murmuró Kumi, tratando de sonar valiente—. Si me quedo aquí contigo, no serviré de mucho. ¿Ves algún arroyo cerca?

“I need to find some water,” Kumi murmured, trying to sound brave. “If I just stay here, I won’t be of much help. Is there a stream or anything nearby?”

Musashi nodded slightly, pointing with his chin to the right. “That way… if you follow the slope, you should hear water. But be careful. If you see white flags, keep away. They’re the enemy.”

As she moved away, Kumi noticed her breathing was rapid and shallow. Every shadow seemed to shift, and every noise made her turn, tense. Her heart pounded as if it might burst from her chest.
