Story (CEFR: B2 Spanish)
El sexto sacrificio nos había cambiado. No éramos los mismos adolescentes que empezaron la aventura: llevábamos cicatrices en el alma, recuerdos borrados y promesas rotas, pero también una determinación que nunca antes habíamos sentido. La séptima y última llave no apareció de inmediato. Los días se volvieron densos, como si la ciudad entera contuviera la respiración. Las fronteras entre el sueño y la vigilia ya casi no existían: era común ver criaturas fantásticas al doblar una esquina o encontrarse con ráfagas de viento que traían ecos de canciones de otro mundo. Los adultos intentaban convencerse de que todo era producto del estrés o de la tecnología, pero para nosotros, la realidad ya era otra cosa. Supimos que el último portal aparecería al amanecer, en el mismo lugar donde todo había comenzado: el puente sobre el río Sumida.

English Translation
The sixth sacrifice had changed us. We were no longer the ordinary teenagers who started this adventure: we bore scars on our souls, lost memories, broken promises, but also a determination we had never felt before. The seventh and final key did not appear immediately. Days became heavy, as if the whole city were holding its breath. The boundary between dream and waking life was almost gone: it became normal to see fantastic creatures around corners or to hear gusts of wind carrying songs from another world. Adults tried to convince themselves it was all stress or technology, but for us, reality was something else. We knew the final portal would appear at dawn, in the place where it all began: the bridge over the Sumida River.

Fuimos los siete al puente, llevando cada uno su amuleto, los recuerdos de los caídos, y la carga de los sacrificios. El río brillaba con una luz sobrenatural y en la superficie se reflejaban dos cielos distintos: uno amaneciendo y el otro sumido en estrellas que giraban en espiral. Lena, temblando, sostuvo todas las llaves y, con la voz quebrada, preguntó si estábamos listos para abrir la puerta final. Nadie dudó. Sabíamos que tal vez no volveríamos a casa, pero si no lo intentábamos, ambos mundos se perderían para siempre.

English Translation
The seven of us went to the bridge, each carrying our own amulet, the memories of those we had lost, and the weight of our sacrifices. The river shone with an otherworldly light, and on its surface two different skies were reflected: one dawning, the other swirling with spiraling stars. Lena, trembling, held all the keys and, with a shaking voice, asked if we were ready to open the final door. No one hesitated. We knew we might never return home, but if we didn’t try, both worlds would be lost forever.

Alrededor del portal, criaturas de fantasía y monstruos de pesadilla se reunían en silencio, como si también esperaran la decisión. Kumi me apretó la mano y sonrió. “Este es el momento de elegir”, dijo. “No solo para nosotros, sino para todos los que vendrán después.”

English Translation
The keys floated above the water, forming an arch of light that rose to the sky. At the center of the bridge, the largest portal we had ever seen appeared: a huge oval, woven from fragments of both worlds, through which voices, images, memories, and dreams intertwined. Around the portal, creatures of fantasy and monsters of nightmare gathered in silence, as if also waiting for the decision. Kumi squeezed my hand and smiled. “This is the moment to choose,” she said. “Not just for us, but for everyone who comes after.”

But in that instant, I felt nothing was lost: as long as we walked together, there would always be a path home, even if it was not the same home we once knew. With the first ray of sunlight, we took the final step, knowing that the fate of both worlds and ourselves depended on what we chose as we crossed the last portal.
