A medida que el grupo reunía más llaves, los sueños se volvían cada vez más inquietantes. Imágenes de puertas colosales custodiadas por sombras titánicas, relojes derretidos que marcaban la medianoche una y otra vez, voces desconocidas que advertían: “El precio será cada vez mayor.” La presión aumentaba, y todos sabíamos que nos acercábamos al umbral donde el mundo de los sueños y el real terminarían por fundirse. We advanced to the main altar, where a massive figure awaited us: the Guardian of the Threshold, half-human, half-beast, with eyes that changed color like the sky before a storm. He didn’t attack, but his voice echoed in our minds: “Are you willing to sacrifice what you value most to save your two worlds?” In that instant, each of us felt what our greatest attachment was: a promise, a memory, an ambition, an unspoken love.

Kumi eligió sacrificar el recuerdo más feliz de su infancia, Lena renunció a la certeza de que su familia la esperaba de vuelta, el chico de los sueños con animales regaló su voz, y yo ofrecí mi miedo—ese temor profundo que siempre me había protegido de arriesgarme demasiado. El Guardián aceptó nuestras ofrendas y, por un momento, sentí que el mundo temblaba. En el centro del altar apareció una llave negra y reluciente, la sexta. Al tomarla, todos sentimos un vacío y una claridad nueva; éramos menos, pero también más fuertes.

The Guardian accepted our offerings, and for a moment, it felt as though the world shook. In the center of the altar, a black, gleaming key appeared—the sixth. When we picked it up, we all felt an emptiness, but also a new clarity; we were less, but somehow stronger.
