El lunes por la mañana tiene un ritmo distinto. Aunque el sol brilla alto, la ciudad parece desperezarse con lentitud, como si todos intentaran aferrarse unos minutos más al fin de semana que se ha ido. Camino hacia la escuela por la misma ruta de siempre, pero en el aire hay algo nuevo: el rumor lejano de unas cigarras, el olor de la hierba recién cortada, la promesa indefinida de un día que aún no ha decidido en qué se convertirá.

月曜の朝は、ほかの日と少し違ったリズムで始まる。太陽は高く昇っているのに、街全体がまだ眠気を引きずっているようで、みんなが週末の余韻をもう少しだけ味わいたいと願っているみたいだった。いつもの道を学校へ歩きながらも、今日はどこか新しい気配が漂っている。遠くで蝉が鳴き始め、刈りたての芝生の匂いがする。まだ何者にもなっていない、そんな一日の予感が空気の中にあった。

Monday morning has a different rhythm. Even though the sun is shining high, the city seems to wake up slowly, as if everyone is trying to cling to the weekend a little longer. I walk the same route to school as always, but there’s something new in the air: the distant hum of cicadas, the scent of freshly cut grass, the undefined promise of a day that hasn’t yet decided what it will become.

Najimi ya me espera bajo el árbol grande, con el cabello recogido en una coleta desordenada. Lleva en la mano un libro grueso y, aunque bosteza, sus ojos se iluminan al verme acercar. Es una escena que se repite cada semana, pero de alguna manera nunca cansa; tiene la frescura tranquila de las cosas que siempre están ahí cuando las necesitas.

Najimi is already waiting for me under the big tree, her hair tied back in a messy ponytail. She holds a thick book in her hand and, though she yawns, her eyes light up when she sees me approach. It’s a scene that repeats every week, but somehow it never gets old; it has the quiet freshness of things that are always there when you need them.

—¿Listo para otro lunes? —pregunta, sonriendo. Yo asiento y juntos emprendemos el camino hacia la escuela, hablando de cualquier cosa: de un sueño extraño, de los deberes olvidados, de si la cafetería volverá a servir ese pan dulce que tanto nos gusta.

El colegio hoy parece distinto. Hay carteles nuevos en la entrada anunciando el próximo festival cultural, y en el aire se nota la mezcla de nervios y entusiasmo que precede a los grandes eventos. Komehyo aparece corriendo desde el fondo, agitando los brazos y gritando algo sobre “formar el mejor grupo del universo”. Najimi y yo nos miramos y reímos; sabemos que, con él cerca, cualquier día corriente puede transformarse en algo memorable.

今日の学校はいつもと違って見えた。玄関には新しい文化祭のポスターが貼られ、大きな行事の前独特の緊張とワクワクが空気を満たしている。そこへコメヒョが全速力で現れ、「最強のチームを作るぞ！」と腕を振りながら叫んでいる。ナジミと僕は顔を見合わせて笑った。コメヒョがいれば、どんな平凡な一日も忘れられないものになると知っているからだ。

The school looks different today. There are new posters at the entrance for the upcoming cultural festival, and in the air is that special mix of nerves and excitement that always comes before big events. Komehyo appears, running at full speed, waving his arms and shouting something about “forming the best team in the universe.” Najimi and I look at each other and laugh; we know that with him around, any ordinary day can turn into something unforgettable.

오늘의 학교는 평소와 다르게 보인다. 입구에는 곧 있을 문화제 포스터가 새로 붙어 있고, 대형 행사를 앞둔 특유의 긴장과 설렘이 교내에 감돈다. 그때 코메효가 전속력으로 달려와 팔을 휘두르며 "최강 팀을 만들자!"고 외친다. 나지미와 나는 서로를 바라보며 웃었다. 코메효가 곁에 있으면 평범한 날도 잊지 못할 하루로 바뀔 수 있다는 걸 잘 알기 때문이다.
