Una mañana, Kumi se despierta y escucha la lluvia golpear la ventana. “¡Oh, hoy lloverá todo el día!” piensa. Se pone su chubasquero verde y busca su paraguas. Pero solo encuentra un paraguas amarillo muy grande en la entrada. “¿De quién será este paraguas?” pregunta a su mamá. “No es nuestro, Kumi. Alguien lo dejó ayer”, responde mamá.

One morning, Kumi wakes up and hears the rain tapping on the window. “Oh, it will rain all day today!” she thinks. She puts on her green raincoat and looks for her umbrella, but she only finds a very big yellow umbrella at the entrance. “Whose umbrella is this?” she asks her mom. “It’s not ours, Kumi. Someone left it here yesterday,” her mom answers.

Kumi decide llevar el paraguas amarillo a la escuela. Es tan grande que casi no puede levantarlo. Cuando camina, el viento lo mueve y Kumi parece una pequeña flor bajo una hoja gigante. En la esquina, el señor Tanaka del barrio la ve y dice: “¡Qué paraguas tan divertido tienes hoy, Kumi!”

Kumi decides to take the yellow umbrella to school. It is so big that she can barely hold it up. When she walks, the wind moves the umbrella and Kumi looks like a little flower under a giant leaf. At the corner, Mr. Tanaka from the neighborhood sees her and says, “What a funny umbrella you have today, Kumi!”

At school, everyone looks at Kumi’s umbrella. Yui runs up and asks, “Why do you have such a big umbrella?” Kumi laughs and says, “I don’t know, I found it at my house this morning. It’s a mysterious umbrella!”

En el recreo, Kumi y Yui invitan a otros niños a jugar bajo el paraguas. Juegan a imaginar que están en una casa mágica. Se ríen mucho y hasta la profesora Matsuda se esconde debajo del paraguas con ellos. “¡Esta es la casa de la risa!”, dice.

At recess, Kumi and Yui invite other children to play under the umbrella. They pretend it is a magic house. They laugh a lot, and even Ms. Matsuda joins them under the umbrella. “This is the house of laughter!” she says.
