Un lunes, la profesora Matsuda anuncia: “Hoy vamos a plantar árboles en el patio de la escuela.” Todos los niños se ponen guantes y reciben una pala pequeña. Kumi, Yui y Akari están muy emocionadas. Es la primera vez que plantan un árbol.

On Monday, Ms. Matsuda announces, “Today we are going to plant trees in the school yard.” All the children put on gloves and get a small shovel. Kumi, Yui, and Akari are very excited. It’s their first time planting a tree.

Primero, hacen un agujero en la tierra. Luego ponen un pequeño árbol y lo cubren con cuidado. Matsuda sensei les ayuda a echar agua. Kumi siente la tierra fresca en las manos y sonríe al ver el arbolito recto y fuerte.

First, they make a hole in the soil. Then they put the small tree in and cover it carefully. Ms. Matsuda helps them water it. Kumi feels the cool soil in her hands and smiles as she sees the little tree standing straight and strong.

首先，她们在土里挖个洞。然后把小树放进去，小心地盖上土。松田老师帮大家浇水。久美用手感受着凉凉的泥土，看着小树笔直有力地立着，开心地笑了。
Cuando terminan, cada grupo pone una etiqueta con sus nombres junto al árbol. “Este es nuestro árbol”, dice Akari orgullosa. Todos prometen cuidar los árboles y regarlos cada semana.

When they finish, each group puts a label with their names next to the tree. “This is our tree,” says Akari proudly. Everyone promises to take care of the trees and water them every week.

In the afternoon, Kumi tells her mom about the tree she planted. Mom says, “A tree grows little by little, just like you.” Kumi looks at the tree from the window and dreams of seeing it big and full of leaves one day.
