Un día, la profesora Matsuda anuncia un concurso de dibujo en la escuela. “El tema es la naturaleza. Podéis dibujar animales, plantas o paisajes.” Kumi se emociona mucho porque le encanta dibujar. Ya empieza a pensar en ideas para su dibujo.

One day, Ms. Matsuda announces a drawing contest at school. “The theme is nature. You can draw animals, plants, or landscapes.” Kumi is very excited because she loves drawing. She already starts thinking about ideas for her picture.

Kumi decide dibujar un gran árbol en primavera, lleno de flores y pájaros. Usa muchos colores y dibuja también a Yui y Akari jugando bajo el árbol. Cuando termina, se lo enseña a su mamá, quien le dice: “¡Qué dibujo tan bonito!”

Kumi decides to draw a big tree in spring, full of flowers and birds. She uses many colors and also draws Yui and Akari playing under the tree. When she finishes, she shows it to her mom, who says: “What a beautiful drawing!”

El día del concurso, todos los niños muestran sus dibujos en el aula. Hay paisajes, gatos, ríos y mariposas. La profesora Matsuda observa cada dibujo y, al final, anuncia los ganadores.

On the day of the contest, all the children show their pictures in the classroom. There are landscapes, cats, rivers, and butterflies. Ms. Matsuda looks at each picture and finally announces the winners.

Kumi wins first prize! Everyone claps and the teacher gives her a certificate. Kumi is very happy and her friends congratulate her. “Your tree is beautiful!” says Akari. That night, Kumi puts the certificate on the wall and dreams of painting many more pictures.
