Story (English - CEFR C2)
The following week, Mitsuki arrived at the clubroom ten minutes early. By the time Najimi and I got there, she had already rearranged the desks and stuck a homemade sign to the door: “Occult Research Club—Enter if You Dare!” The marker ink had bled through the paper and onto the wood, but Mitsuki was too proud to notice.

La semana siguiente, Mitsuki llegó al club diez minutos antes. Para cuando Najimi y yo llegamos, ya había reorganizado las mesas y pegado un cartel casero en la puerta: “Club de Investigación Oculta—¡Entra si te atreves!” El rotulador se había traspasado al marco de la puerta, pero Mitsuki estaba demasiado orgullosa como para notarlo.
“What do you think?” she said, bouncing in place. “Today’s activity: a mystery riddle contest! Winner gets… um, the right to choose next week’s snacks?” Najimi’s eyes lit up. “If I win, it’s nothing but chocolate donuts from now on!” Komehyo raised an eyebrow. “I’ll participate only if no one tries to summon a demon this time.”

The game began. Mitsuki had brought a stack of handwritten puzzles, each one more twisted than the last. Najimi solved the first in seconds, crowing with delight. Komehyo studied the next, lips pressed tight, and got it on his second try. I stumbled over a few, but managed to win one round when I noticed a hidden pattern in Mitsuki’s handwriting.

Empezó el juego. Mitsuki había traído una pila de acertijos hechos a mano, cada uno más retorcido que el anterior. Najimi resolvió el primero en segundos y celebró con alegría. Komehyo examinó el siguiente, los labios apretados, y lo resolvió en el segundo intento. Yo tropecé con varios, pero logré ganar una ronda al notar un patrón oculto en la letra de Mitsuki.
“You’re good!” Mitsuki exclaimed, clapping. “You all are! This is the best club ever!” She was practically vibrating with excitement. Even Komehyo couldn’t suppress a real smile. Najimi started arguing that her donut proposal should win on principle. Before I knew it, the whole afternoon had slipped away.

Najimi empezó a decir que su propuesta de donuts debía ganar por principios. Cuando me di cuenta, la tarde se había esfumado.
On my way home, I thought about how quickly the atmosphere had shifted. Mitsuki’s laughter was contagious, her energy impossible to resist. The club felt new again—like anything could happen. For the first time in a long while, I was excited for what tomorrow might bring.
