Story (English - CEFR C2)
Clubs at our school rarely attract outsiders. The world beyond our dusty clubroom door moves fast—new faces, shifting rumors, stories that begin and end before we even hear them. But lately, there’s been a rumor. A first-year, full of energy, curious about everything, might be looking for a place to belong. Najimi says she heard it from a friend’s friend, which means it’s probably half true and half her own wishful thinking.

Los clubes de nuestra escuela rara vez atraen a forasteros. El mundo más allá de la puerta polvorienta de nuestro club se mueve rápido: nuevas caras, rumores cambiantes, historias que empiezan y terminan antes de que lleguemos a escucharlas. Pero últimamente, ha habido un rumor. Una estudiante de primer año, llena de energía y curiosidad por todo, podría estar buscando un sitio donde encajar. Najimi dice que lo oyó de la amiga de una amiga, así que probablemente sea mitad verdad y mitad un deseo suyo.
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little curious. Our routines are comfortable, maybe too comfortable. Sometimes I catch myself wondering if we’re just going through the motions—solving silly mysteries, telling ghost stories, laughing at the same jokes. Would a new member change that? Make us better? Or would we lose something only the three of us understand?

Today, as usual, Najimi dominated the room with her story about a teacher who supposedly talks to his houseplants. Komehyo made a dry comment about photosynthesis, which only encouraged her. I sat back and watched them spar, grateful for the way their voices filled the space.

As the conversation drifted, the clubroom door rattled—just for a second. We all glanced at it. Nobody came in. Maybe it was just the wind, or maybe someone was listening on the other side. Najimi raised her eyebrow, ready to invent another wild explanation, but for once, she just grinned and shrugged. The moment passed. Still, for the rest of the afternoon, I kept thinking about that gentle knock, the way it made the world outside our bubble seem closer than ever.

Najimi arqueó una ceja, lista para inventar otra explicación loca, pero esta vez solo sonrió y se encogió de hombros. El momento pasó. Aun así, el resto de la tarde no pude dejar de pensar en ese golpecito suave, en cómo hizo que el mundo fuera de nuestra burbuja pareciera más cercano que nunca.
After we left, I lingered in the hallway for a minute. The sun was setting, the air warm and heavy with summer. I heard footsteps somewhere behind me—quick, energetic, unfamiliar. I almost turned around, but decided against it. Whoever it was, I had a feeling we’d be meeting soon enough.
