Story (English - CEFR C2)
The truce from yesterday’s quiz didn’t last. By midweek, the air was brittle again. Mitsuki sat with her arms crossed, pointedly ignoring Najimi, whose jokes landed flat and went unacknowledged. Komehyo, usually the mediator, barely glanced up from his book. Even Haru, who once took refuge in his silence, now glared at anyone who tried to break it.

昨日のクイズで生まれた“休戦”は長くは続かなかった。週の半ばには、また部室の空気がピリピリと張り詰めていた。
ミツキは腕を組んで座り、ナジミをあからさまに無視している。ナジミのギャグも、誰にも相手にされず空回りするだけ。普段なら仲裁役のコメヒョも、本から顔を上げようとしない。ハルでさえ、以前の静けさとは違い、誰かが話しかけようとすると睨みつけてきた。

La tregua de la quiz de ayer no duró. A mitad de semana, el aire volvió a volverse frágil.
Mitsuki se sentó con los brazos cruzados, ignorando deliberadamente a Najimi, cuyos chistes no recibían ninguna reacción. Komehyo, normalmente el mediador, apenas levantó la vista de su libro. Incluso Haru, que antes encontraba refugio en su silencio, ahora miraba con hostilidad a cualquiera que intentara romperlo.
I could feel something shifting—tiny glances, whispered doubts. When Mitsuki dropped her pencil, Najimi hesitated before picking it up, as if uncertain she was welcome. Haru muttered something under his breath. Kumi sat motionless, clutching her notebook so tightly her knuckles whitened.

ミツキが鉛筆を落とした時、ナジミはそれを拾うのをためらい、まるで自分が拒絶されているのではないかと怯えているようだった。ハルは聞き取れないほど小さく何かをつぶやき、クミはノートを握りしめたまま一切動かず、指の節が真っ白になっていた。

Pude sentir que algo estaba cambiando—miradas fugaces, dudas susurradas.
Cuando Mitsuki dejó caer su lápiz, Najimi dudó antes de recogerlo, como si no estuviera segura de ser bienvenida. Haru murmuró algo por lo bajo. Kumi permanecía inmóvil, aferrada a su cuaderno con tanta fuerza que los nudillos se le pusieron blancos.
Then, without warning, Komehyo closed his book with a snap. “Are we just going to keep pretending?” he said, his voice flat but heavy. Silence settled over us. Najimi looked away. Mitsuki stared at her desk. Haru’s hand tightened on his pen.

“¿Vamos a seguir fingiendo?” dijo, con voz plana pero pesada.
El silencio se apoderó de nosotros. Najimi apartó la mirada. Mitsuki miró su escritorio. Haru apretó la mano sobre su bolígrafo.
I tried to speak—to say something that would pull us back from the edge—but the words stuck in my throat. All I could do was watch, helpless, as the lines between us deepened, and the secrets we’d all tried to hide became impossible to ignore.
