The next day, Mitsuki came in late, eyes red as if she hadn’t slept. She barely said a word, refusing even Najimi’s attempts at conversation. Najimi, for her part, tried to act as if nothing was wrong—laughing louder, making bigger gestures—but the room felt colder for it.

翌日、ミツキは遅れて部室に現れた。目は赤く、眠れていない様子だった。ほとんど口をきかず、ナジミがどんなに話しかけてもそっけなくかわす。ナジミは「何も問題ない」と言わんばかりに、いつも以上に明るく振る舞い、身振り手振りも大きくなっていたが、その分だけ部室の空気は冷え切っていった。

Al día siguiente, Mitsuki llegó tarde, con los ojos rojos como si no hubiera dormido. Apenas dijo una palabra, rechazando incluso los intentos de Najimi de conversar. Najimi, por su parte, intentó actuar como si nada pasara—riendo más fuerte, haciendo gestos más exagerados—pero la sala se sentía más fría por ello.
Komehyo watched them both, silent, fingers tapping an anxious rhythm on his notebook. Haru sat further from the group than usual, his gaze fixed on the floor. Even Kumi, normally so still, seemed tense—her shoulders drawn up, her hands clasped too tightly in her lap.

Komehyo los observaba a ambos en silencio, los dedos tamborileando un ritmo ansioso sobre su cuaderno. Haru se sentó más lejos del grupo de lo habitual, la mirada fija en el suelo. Incluso Kumi, normalmente tan tranquila, parecía tensa—los hombros encogidos, las manos apretadas sobre el regazo.
“You could just talk to me, you know,” Mitsuki finally snapped, breaking the silence. Najimi froze, hands halfway through shuffling a deck of cards. “I— I don’t know what you want me to say,” Najimi stammered, her voice brittle. “Anything would be better than pretending!” Mitsuki shot back. Komehyo cleared his throat, as if to intervene, but stopped himself. No one looked at anyone else.

「……別に、話したっていいんだよ？」ついにミツキが語気を強めて言い放ち、沈黙を破った。ナジミは手元のトランプをシャッフルしかけたまま、固まってしまう。
「わ、私……何て言えばいいのか、わからないよ……」ナジミは震える声で答えた。
「黙ってごまかすより、何でもいいから言ってよ！」ミツキが強く言い返す。
コメヒョは何か言いかけて喉を鳴らしたが、そのまま口をつぐんだ。誰も、他の誰かと目を合わせようとはしなかった。

“Podrías hablar conmigo, ¿sabes?” estalló finalmente Mitsuki, rompiendo el silencio. Najimi se quedó congelada, las manos a medio barajar la baraja.
“Yo... no sé qué quieres que diga,” tartamudeó Najimi, la voz quebradiza.
“¡Cualquier cosa sería mejor que fingir!” respondió Mitsuki con dureza.
Komehyo carraspeó, como si fuera a intervenir, pero se detuvo. Nadie miró a nadie.
I watched, helpless, as the argument fizzled out into sullen silence. This wasn’t what I wanted for us. But I didn’t know how to fix it. All I could do was sit there, feeling the sharp edge of the fracture growing wider, and tell myself—over and over—that I wouldn’t give up on any of them. Not now. Not ever.
