Story (English - CEFR C2)
The following days blurred into a gentle pattern. Kumi came to the clubroom every afternoon, always a few minutes early, always choosing the same seat—furthest from the window, closest to the bookshelves. She rarely spoke unless spoken to, but she listened carefully to every conversation, eyes moving quietly from face to face.

Los días siguientes se fundieron en un patrón suave. Kumi venía al club cada tarde, siempre unos minutos antes, siempre eligiendo el mismo asiento—el más alejado de la ventana, junto a las estanterías. Rara vez hablaba si no le dirigían la palabra, pero escuchaba con atención cada conversación, sus ojos moviéndose en silencio de un rostro a otro.
Mitsuki treated her like a new little sister, dragging her into games and riddles. “Kumi, you have to guess the answer! Don’t just watch, participate!” Kumi would smile faintly, usually declining, but sometimes—when Mitsuki insisted—she’d murmur a solution so quietly it was almost lost in the noise. More often than not, her answers were correct.

Najimi, unfazed, tried to bring her into the circle of jokes and stories. But sometimes Najimi would fall silent, eyes flicking between Kumi and her own reflection in the glass cabinet, as if comparing two versions of the same person.

Komehyo was distant, but not unfriendly. He observed Kumi with a kind of quiet curiosity, occasionally asking for her opinion on a puzzle or club matter. Haru, as always, watched from the background, but I caught him studying Kumi when he thought no one was looking.

As for me, I couldn’t shake a sense of déjà vu every time I looked at Kumi. There was something about her—her posture, the way she tucked her hair behind her ear, the gentle sadness in her eyes—that felt both familiar and utterly foreign. I found myself wanting to protect her, but also, inexplicably, to understand the distance that seemed to separate her from all of us.
