Story (CEFR: B1 English)
The following week, an envelope arrived for Ak. The handwriting was unfamiliar, sharp yet elegant. Inside, he found a letter signed “Kumi.” She wrote, “I’ve heard stories about Puzzle House. I want to meet people who solve riddles together, who make every day an adventure. If you’ll have me, I’d like to visit.” Ak read the letter twice, excitement bubbling up. At club that evening, he shared the news. Najimi instantly began planning a “welcome mystery,” while Komehyo offered to build a puzzle machine as a greeting. Rikka simply smiled, happy to see Ak’s eyes shining.

La semana siguiente, llegó un sobre para Ak. La letra era desconocida, firme pero elegante. Dentro había una carta firmada por “Kumi”. Escribía: “He oído historias de la Casa Puzzle. Quiero conocer gente que resuelve acertijos juntos, que convierte cada día en una aventura. Si me aceptan, me gustaría visitar.” Ak leyó la carta dos veces, con la emoción creciendo en su pecho. Esa noche, compartió la noticia con el club. Najimi empezó a planear de inmediato un “misterio de bienvenida”, Komehyo ofreció construir una máquina de acertijos como saludo y Rikka solo sonrió, feliz de ver brillar los ojos de Ak.
That weekend, they prepared everything: decorations, snacks, and a complex “entrance puzzle.” Ak waited anxiously by the door. When the bell finally rang, he opened it to find a girl with short hair and curious eyes, suitcase in hand. “Hi, I’m Kumi. I brought a riddle.” She handed Ak a folded paper: “What never asks questions but is always answered?” Ak grinned, recognizing a kindred spirit. “A door,” he replied. Kumi smiled. “Then let’s open a new one together.”

Ese fin de semana prepararon todo: decoraciones, bocadillos y un complicado “acertijo de entrada”. Ak esperó nervioso junto a la puerta. Cuando por fin sonó el timbre, la abrió y encontró a una chica de pelo corto y ojos curiosos, maleta en mano. “Hola, soy Kumi. Traje un acertijo.” Le entregó un papel doblado: “¿Qué nunca hace preguntas pero siempre recibe respuesta?” Ak sonrió, reconociendo a un alma afín. “Una puerta”, respondió. Kumi sonrió. “Entonces, abramos una nueva juntos.”
That evening, with Kumi welcomed into the club, Ak felt a spark of something new—a hint of change in the air, as if the next chapter was about to begin.
