Story (CEFR: B1 English)
Early one morning, Ak found an envelope at the foot of the stairs. The only marking was his name, written in blue ink. He glanced around—no one in sight. Opening it carefully, he found a simple note: “Take the stairs today. Each step holds a clue.” Curious, he began his climb. On the second step, a sticker with a tiny cat. On the fifth, a scrap of paper: “Smile at the third-floor window.” Ak complied, waving at the empty window—only to spot Rikka grinning from behind the curtain. Step by step, the clues grew sillier: “Hop like a frog on the landing,” “Compliment the potted plant.” Ak laughed, feeling the ordinary staircase transformed by invisible hands.

ある朝早く、アクは階段の下で封筒を見つけた。青いインクで自分の名前だけが書かれている。周りを見渡しても誰もいない。そっと開けると、「今日は階段を使おう。一段ごとにヒントがある」とメモが入っていた。気になって上り始める。２段目には猫のシール、５段目には「３階の窓に笑顔を」と紙切れ。アクが言われた通り手を振ると、カーテンの奥にリッカがにっこり。上がるたびヒントはどんどんふざけたものに。「踊り場でカエル跳び」「鉢植えを褒めよ」。アクは思わず笑い、いつもの階段が誰かのイタズラで特別になった。

Una mañana temprano, Ak encontró un sobre al pie de las escaleras. Solo tenía su nombre escrito en tinta azul. Miró alrededor; no había nadie. Lo abrió con cuidado y halló una nota sencilla: “Usa las escaleras hoy. Cada escalón tiene una pista.” Curioso, comenzó a subir. En el segundo escalón, una pegatina de gato. En el quinto, un papelito: “Sonríe a la ventana del tercer piso.” Ak obedeció, saludando a la ventana vacía—y vio a Rikka sonriendo detrás de la cortina. Escalón tras escalón, las pistas se volvían más graciosas: “Salta como rana en el rellano”, “Elogia la maceta”. Ak reía, sintiendo la escalera común transformada por manos invisibles.
At the top, Najimi and Komehyo were waiting, holding a paper crown. “Congratulations!” Najimi cheered. “You completed the Stairway Quest!” Komehyo handed him a certificate for “Excellence in Following Absurd Instructions.” Rikka arrived with homemade lemonade as a prize. The four sat together on the landing, sipping and joking. Ak realized the day had begun with a secret game, but ended with a new appreciation for every small surprise Puzzle House offered. Even ordinary stairs could become the start of an adventure, if you walked them with friends.

階段の一番上では、ナジミとコメヒョが紙の王冠を持って待っていた。「おめでとう！」とナジミ。「“階段クエスト”クリア！」コメヒョは「奇妙な指示を忠実に実行したで賞」の認定証を手渡す。リッカはご褒美の手作りレモネードを持って合流。４人は踊り場で並んで座り、飲みながら冗談を言い合った。アクは「今日は秘密のゲームから始まったけど、パズルハウスの小さな驚きが大好きになった」と実感。普通の階段も、仲間と登れば冒険の始まりだ。

En la cima, Najimi y Komehyo esperaban con una corona de papel. “¡Felicidades!” celebró Najimi. “¡Completaste la Misión de las Escaleras!” Komehyo le entregó un diploma por “Excelencia en seguir instrucciones absurdas”. Rikka llegó con limonada casera como premio. Los cuatro se sentaron juntos en el rellano, bebiendo y bromeando. Ak se dio cuenta de que el día comenzó con un juego secreto, pero terminó apreciando cada sorpresa pequeña que ofrecía la Casa Puzzle. Incluso unas simples escaleras podían ser el inicio de una aventura si las subías con amigos.
