Story (CEFR: B1 English)
Saturday dawns gray and quiet. The storm has passed, but the apartment feels different—hushed, as if holding its breath. The power is still out. Our club gathers in the candlelit kitchen, rubbing sleep from our eyes, listening to the drip of water from a leaky window.

That’s when the landlord arrives, looking worried. “I have bad news,” he says. “The storm flooded the basement. We only have enough water for a few hours, and we need someone to wait for the repair crew. But someone else has to go to the store for emergency supplies. I need two volunteers.”
