I walked away from the trailers with my head spinning. The case had just become much more complicated. I had Marco, the heartbroken knife-thrower with a practice rope-cut near his target. And now I had Sofia, the ambitious understudy with a bottle of rope-weakening solvent in her trash. Did they work together? Or was one of them trying to frame the other? Then I went back into town, to the only place that would sell such a strong chemical: "Oakhaven Hardware," the local hardware store.

He put on his reading glasses and looked at my phone. "Ah, yes. Nasty stuff, that is. Very strong. Burns the skin if you're not careful."

She said she needed it to clean some old, greasy metal parts on their equipment."

But my mind was stuck on the contradiction: a chemical solvent and a knife cut. Why use both? It didn't make sense. A person would choose one method, not two. Unless... the two clues were not for two methods. Unless they were part of one, single, very clever plan.
