2-4: 上へ？上にいる？ onto vs on
前回のレッスンでは、「中へ」の動き (into) と「中にいる」状態 (in) の違いを見ましたね。 今回はそれに似たペア、「onto」と「on」の使い分けです。これもポイントは「**動き**」があるかどうか！
onto は何かの表面**「へ」と移動する動き**を表し、on はすでにその表面**「に」いる状態や位置**を表します。この違いを例文と共に詳しく見ていきましょう。

onto はテーブルに「乗る動き」、on はテーブルの「上にいる状態」
onto の使い方：表面への「動き・移動」
onto は、ある物や場所の**表面「へ」と移動したり、何かを置いたりする動き**を表します。「～の上へ」という意味です。 jump, climb, step, get, put, load, move といった動きを示す動詞と共によく使われます。

on の使い方：表面での「状態・位置」 (復習)
一方、on は、すでにある物や場所の**表面「に」いる状態や位置**を表します。「動き」のニュアンスは通常ありません。

onto vs on まとめ比較

まれに、副詞の on (続ける) と前置詞の to が組み合わさって on to となる場合があります。これは1語の前置詞 onto とは意味が異なります。

He held on to the railing tightly. (手すりにしっかりつかまった - hold on [掴まる] + to)
文脈で判断できますが、場所の「上へ」という動きは基本的に onto を使います。
