English Story (CEFR: B2)
The mountain trembled as the aircraft descended. From the shattered windows, Rai could see the soldiers surrounding the observatory like shadows in the snow.
“We hold them off here,” Mori said, locking a bolt into his rifle. “You two, find a way out if it gets bad.”
“No,” Rai said firmly. “We do this together.”
Lin stepped to the center of the room. The glowing mark on her arm began to pulse faster, responding to the threat.
“What is that?” Rai asked.
“Resonance Core,” Lin replied. “Same as yours. Hidden deep until the right moment.”
Outside, the first wave of enemies stormed the building. Rai threw up a shield using the Keyframe—thin, translucent, but strong. Bullets bounced off it like rain on glass.
Mori fired in precise bursts, taking down three soldiers in seconds. He moved like a man who had done this before. Too many times.
But then something changed. Lin raised both hands, and the very air began to ripple. The sound distorted, colors shifted—time bent around her.
“She’s freezing time,” Rai said, awestruck.
“Just a sliver of it,” Lin gritted. “I can’t hold it long.”
Frozen mid-stride, the soldiers hung in the air like statues. Rai and Mori dashed past them, deeper into the forest behind the observatory.
“We can’t win in a straight fight,” Lin said as the time distortion faded and movement resumed. “We need to disappear.”
Rai hesitated. “What if running is what they expect?”
“Then we surprise them,” Mori said. “Turn the game around.”
Rai clenched his fists. For a moment, a pulse ran up his arm—his own Resonance Core awakening again.
“Let’s make them remember who we are,” Rai said. “Even if we’ve forgotten ourselves.”

だが、次の瞬間、空気が変わった。リンが両手を上げると、周囲の空間が波打ち始めた。音が歪み、色が揺らぎ、時間がねじれる。
「時間を止めてる…」ライが呆然とつぶやいた。
「ほんの一瞬だけ」リンが苦しげに答える。「長くは持たない。」
兵士たちは歩を止めたまま、空中に固定された像のようになっていた。ライと森はその間をすり抜けて、観測所の裏の森へと駆け込んだ。
「正面からじゃ勝てない」リンが言う。時間のゆがみがほどけ、兵士たちが再び動き出す。「姿を消す必要がある。」
ライは立ち止まり、ためらった。「でも、それも奴らの思うツボじゃないか？」
「なら、逆を突く」森が言った。「このゲーム、ひっくり返すんだよ。」
ライは拳を握りしめた。その瞬間、自分の腕にも脈動が走った。眠っていた“コア”が、また目を覚まそうとしていた。
「たとえ記憶を失っていても…俺たちが誰か、思い出させてやるさ。」ライの声には静かな決意があった。
