English Story (CEFR: B2)
The wind howled through the alpine peaks as Rai and Mori climbed higher. Snow fell steadily, covering their tracks almost as quickly as they made them. The coordinates from the Keyframe led to an abandoned military observatory near the summit.
“I don’t like this,” Mori muttered. “Too quiet. Too easy.”
“She’s close,” Rai said. “I can feel it.”
The observatory loomed ahead, its windows dark, its satellite dishes broken and buried under snow. They approached cautiously, weapons ready. As Rai reached for the rusted door, it creaked open before he touched it.
A girl stood there. Short hair. A scar under her eye. Exactly like the photo.
“You’re late,” she said flatly. “They’re already coming.”
“You’re Subject 07?” Rai asked.
She nodded. “Call me Lin.”
Mori stepped forward. “How do you know who we are?”
“Because I remember.”
That one word stopped Rai in his tracks.
“You... remember?”
Lin turned and walked back inside. “Not everything. But enough to know I escaped, and that they’ll never stop hunting me.”
Inside, the observatory was cold and empty, but there were signs someone had been living there—canned food, a cot, a handmade antenna rig.
“I’ve intercepted their signals,” Lin said. “They call you Subject 01, Rai. You were their first.”
Rai froze. “That can’t be right.”
“It is. You disappeared three years ago. They lost control of the program after you broke free.”
Before Rai could process her words, the ground shook. Snow tumbled from the ceiling. A low hum vibrated the air.
“They’ve locked on,” Lin said grimly. “They’re here.”
Outside, black aircrafts cut through the clouds like blades. From them, figures dropped—Timebreakers, armed and scanning.
“No more running,” Rai said, his voice steady. “We make our stand here.”
“Finally,” Lin replied, pulling back her sleeve to reveal a glowing mark. “Let’s see what I can really do.”

そこに少女が立っていた。短髪。目の下の傷。写真のままだった。
「遅かったわね」少女が無表情に言った。「奴ら、もう来てる。」
「君が被験体07か？」ライが尋ねる。
少女はうなずいた。「リンと呼んで。」
森が前に出る。「どうして俺たちのことを知ってる？」
「覚えてるからよ。」
その一言に、ライの足が止まった。
「…記憶があるのか？」
リンは背を向けて建物の中に戻る。「全部じゃない。でも、逃げ出したことと、あいつらが絶対に諦めないってことは分かってる。」
中は冷たく、空っぽだったが、誰かが生活していた痕跡があった。缶詰、簡易ベッド、自作のアンテナ装置。
「彼らの信号を傍受してたの」リンが言う。「ライ、あなたは“被験体01”。最初の被験者よ。」
ライは動きを止めた。「そんなはずは…」
「本当よ。あなたが逃げた3年前、あのプログラムは制御不能になったの。」
ライが言葉を飲み込む間もなく、地面が揺れた。天井から雪が落ち、空気が低く震え始めた。
「座標を特定された」リンが厳しい表情で言う。「来たわ。」
外では、黒い航空機が雲を切り裂いて飛来していた。そこから兵士たちが降下してくる。タイムブレイカーたち。武装し、捜索を開始している。
「もう逃げない」ライの声は落ち着いていた。「ここで迎え撃つ。」
「ようやくね」リンが袖をまくると、腕に光るマークが現れた。「私の“本当の力”、見せてあげるわ。」
