English Story (CEFR: B1)
Kaito's friendship with Rio grew stronger each day. After learning to 'speak' to a heart without words, Kaito started to think more deeply about his own power. Where did it come from? Why did he have it? He wanted to know more about the origin of his power.
He often thought about his grandmother. She was the one who had spoken to him in his mind when he saved the cart. He decided to visit the old house where she used to live. The house was at the edge of the village, and nobody lived there now. It was quiet and full of memories.
As Kaito walked through the dusty rooms, he felt a strange sense of peace. He felt his grandmother's gentle presence everywhere. In a small bedroom, he found a small wooden box on a shelf. It was a box he had never seen before.
He opened it carefully. Inside the box, there was an old diary and a photo of Kaito as a baby. He picked up the diary. The cover was soft, and it felt warm in his hands. As he touched it, he felt his grandmother's calm and loving emotions flowing into him, just like with the baker's oven.
He sat down and started to read the diary. The pages were yellow with age, and the handwriting was elegant. The diary was about his grandmother's life, and soon, he found entries about himself.
She wrote about how happy she was when Kaito was born. And then, she wrote about his secret. "Little Kaito has the Gift," one entry said. "He can hear the hearts of others, just like I can. But his power seems much stronger than mine."
Kaito's eyes widened. His grandmother had the same power! He was not alone. He continued to read with excitement. His grandmother wrote that she always knew this power was special. She believed that this power was not just for 'hearing', but for 'connecting and healing' people's hearts.
"I hope this power will guide Kaito one day," she wrote. "But I also worry. Great power can sometimes bring great sadness. Be careful, my dear Kaito..."
Reading this, Kaito felt a mix of emotions. He was so happy to know that his power was a gift, perhaps passed down from his grandmother. It gave him a sense of connection and purpose. But her warning made him feel a little worried. What sadness was she talking about?

He now understood that his mission was to learn how to use this inherited power to connect and heal, just as his grandmother had wished. His adventure had just become much deeper and more personal.
