English Story (CEFR: B1)
A few weeks after the festival, a group of traveling performers came to the Valley of the Wind. They set up a colorful tent in the square and put on a show with music, juggling, and funny tricks. The villagers gathered around, laughing and clapping. It was a day of fun and excitement.
Kaito was enjoying the show with his friends. But as he watched the performers, he started to feel something strange. Although their performance was cheerful, Kaito could feel a deep sadness coming from the leader of the group, an older man with a kind face and a big mustache.
The man was smiling and making jokes, but in Kaito's mind, his heart was crying. "I left her alone..." "It was all my fault..." "I want to see her again..." The voice was full of regret.
After the show finished, Kaito saw the man sitting alone by the tent, looking up at the sky with a lonely expression. Kaito felt that he needed to talk to him.
"Excuse me, sir," Kaito said gently. "Your show was amazing. Everyone loved it."
The man looked at Kaito and gave him a weak smile. "Thank you, young man. I'm glad to hear that."
Kaito took a deep breath. "But... I could feel that you are very sad. Are you thinking about someone?"
The man's smile disappeared. He looked at Kaito with surprise and suspicion. "What are you talking about? I'm fine." But his heart told a different story. "How does this boy know? Who is he?"
Kaito explained his power quietly. "I can sometimes hear the voices in people's hearts. I heard your sadness. It's about a girl, isn't it?"
The man was silent for a long time. He looked at Kaito's honest eyes and finally sighed. "It seems I can't hide anything from you," he said softly. He confessed that he had an argument with his only daughter many years ago and left on a journey with his troupe. He had left his daughter behind in their home village.
He had regretted it ever since. He wanted to go back and apologize, but he was too proud and too afraid. Now, so many years had passed, and he didn't know how he could face her.
"I just want to know if she is okay," the man said, his voice trembling. "She should be in a big town beyond the valley. That's all I know."
Kaito wanted to help him. He thought about the man's daughter, trying to feel her presence, just like he did with the lost charm. He focused his mind, using the man's strong feelings of love and regret as a guide.
He closed his eyes and listened, not with his ears, but with his heart. He tried to reach out across the valley, to the big town the man had mentioned.
Then, he heard it. It was a very faint voice, almost a whisper, but it was there. It was a young woman's voice, and it was filled with a quiet loneliness. "Father, are you well...?" "I wonder where you are..." "I want to see you..."
Kaito opened his eyes. "I hear her," he said. "I can hear your daughter's voice. She is thinking of you. She misses you too."
Tears streamed down the old man's face. "You can hear her? Is she... is she really okay?"
"Yes," Kaito said with a warm smile. "She sounds lonely, but she is thinking of you with love. Her heart is reaching out to you, just like yours is to her."
The man covered his face with his hands and cried with relief and joy. He couldn't believe that his daughter still thought of him after all these years.
"I will go to her," the man said with new determination in his voice. "After our journey is over, I will go and find her. I must tell her I am sorry."
Kaito felt a deep sense of peace. He didn't directly reunite them, but his power created a chance to reconnect their broken family bond. He had shown the man that it wasn't too late.
The traveling troupe left the village the next day. As they left, the leader looked at Kaito and gave him a deep, grateful bow. Kaito waved back, knowing that the man was now on a new journey—a journey back to his daughter's heart.
