English Story (CEFR: A2)
A week passed quickly. Ren and Daren now trained every day. They moved faster, talked more, and laughed sometimes. They were no longer just two boys in the same house — they had become true partners.
One morning, Mira came to them with a serious face. “I have a task for you,” she said. “This will be your first trial outside the house.”
Ren and Daren looked at each other. “We’re ready,” Ren said.
Mira nodded. “In the forest to the west, there is a small village. Strange creatures have been seen near it. They haven’t attacked yet, but the villagers are scared.”
“Do we fight them?” Daren asked.
“No,” said Mira. “Your task is to find out why they’re there. Are they lost? Are they hungry? Or are they angry? Use your power, Ren. Use your strength, Daren. Work together.”
Ren took a deep breath. “We’ll do our best.”
Later that day, they packed some food, water, and simple weapons. The forest was only two hours away. By afternoon, they stood at the edge of tall trees and green shadows.
“It’s quiet,” Daren said.
“Too quiet,” Ren replied. “Let’s be careful.”
As they walked deeper into the forest, they began to hear sounds — rustling leaves, soft growls, and the call of unknown animals. Ren’s heart started to beat faster, but he kept moving.
Then, they saw them — three small creatures with glowing eyes and dark fur. They were not big, but they moved quickly and watched closely.
Daren reached for his sword. “Should I…?”
Ren raised a hand. “Wait. Let me try.”
Ren closed his eyes and listened with his heart. The forest seemed to whisper. Then —
“Scared… hungry… cold…”
Ren opened his eyes. “They’re not here to attack. They’re scared. I think they ran from something.”
Daren slowly lowered his sword. “Then… what should we do?”
“We help them,” Ren said. “They need food and warmth.”
Daren looked surprised. “Help… monsters?”
“They’re not monsters,” Ren said. “Just lost ones.”
The boys built a small fire and left some food nearby. The creatures watched but didn’t come close. Ren and Daren stepped back and waited. After a few minutes, the creatures slowly walked forward and began to eat.
“See?” Ren smiled. “They just needed kindness.”
Daren nodded. “Okay… maybe you really are the chosen one.”
They both laughed. And in that quiet moment in the forest, something warm grew between them — not just teamwork, but trust.

その日の午後、2人は食料、水、簡単な武器を用意して出発しました。森は屋敷から2時間ほどの距離でした。午後には、高い木々と緑の影が広がる森の入り口に立っていました。
「静かすぎるな」とダレンが言いました。
「うん、ちょっと不気味かも」とレンが答えました。「気をつけよう」
森を進むと、葉のこすれる音や低いうなり声、聞いたことのない動物の声が聞こえてきました。レンの心臓は早くなっていましたが、それでも足を止めませんでした。
そして、ついに彼らは見つけました。目が光り、黒い毛に覆われた小さな生き物が3匹。大きくはありませんが、動きは素早く、じっとこちらを見ています。
ダレンは剣に手をかけました。「やるか？」
レンが手を上げました。「待って。まずは僕にやらせて」
レンは目を閉じ、心で感じ取ろうとしました。すると、森がささやくように言いました――
「こわい… おなかすいた… さむい…」
レンは目を開けました。「彼らは戦いに来たわけじゃない。怖がってる。何かから逃げてきたみたい。」
ダレンは剣をゆっくりと下ろしました。「じゃあ、どうすれば？」
「助けよう」レンは言いました。「彼らには食べ物と暖かさが必要だ」
「モンスターを助けるのか？」ダレンは驚いて言いました。
「彼らはモンスターじゃない。ただの迷子だよ」とレンは答えました。
2人は小さな火を起こし、近くに食べ物を置きました。生き物たちは見ていましたが、すぐには近づきませんでした。レンとダレンは少し離れて待ちました。数分後、生き物たちはゆっくりと前に出てきて、食べ始めました。
「見た？」レンは微笑みました。「必要だったのは、優しさだったんだ」
ダレンはうなずきました。「…やっぱり、お前って本当に“選ばれし者”なのかもな」
2人は笑い合いました。森の静かなその時、2人の間には、ただの協力以上のもの――信頼という絆が芽生えていたのです。
