English Story (CEFR: A2)
Ren and Daren left the forest just before sunset. The air was cool, and orange light touched the tops of the trees. They were happy with their success — the creatures were safe, and the village would no longer be afraid.
“That went better than I thought,” Daren said, stretching his arms. “I didn’t even have to use my sword.”
Ren smiled. “You used your heart. That’s stronger.”
They walked side by side on the narrow forest path. Birds sang softly. Leaves moved in the wind. Everything felt calm.
But then… Ren stopped.
“What’s wrong?” Daren asked.
Ren’s eyes narrowed. “Something is watching us.”
Daren looked around, putting a hand on his sword. “I don’t see anything.”
Ren closed his eyes. He reached out with his mind, searching for the feeling he had learned to understand. There — a cold thought. A dark whisper.
“Danger…”
He opened his eyes. “There’s something hiding in the trees. It’s not like the small creatures we helped. This one… feels angry.”
Daren stood back-to-back with Ren. “Do you think it will attack?”
Before Ren could answer, a black shape moved between the trees — fast, like a shadow with claws.
“There!” Daren shouted, drawing his sword.
The creature leapt from the trees. It was large, with red eyes and sharp teeth. It growled, and the sound shook the leaves.
Ren stepped forward. “Wait!” he called. “Can you understand me?”
The creature growled again but didn’t attack. It seemed confused by Ren’s voice.
Ren focused, trying to hear its heart. But all he felt was pain, anger… and fear.
“It’s hurt,” he said. “Something made it like this.”
Daren lowered his sword slightly. “Can we help it?”
Ren took a step forward. “Let me try.”
He closed his eyes, reached out his hand, and spoke softly. “You’re not alone. We don’t want to hurt you.”
The creature snarled, but then… it stopped. Slowly, it backed away, still watching them. Then, without a sound, it disappeared into the forest.
Ren let out a long breath. “That… was close.”
Daren looked at him with new respect. “You really are something else.”
Ren nodded, but inside, he was thinking. That creature was not born angry. Someone, or something, had changed it.
And for the first time, Ren felt it — a darker power, far away, but real. A force that wanted to spread fear.
“We’ll face it,” Ren whispered. “Together.”

レンとダレンは夕暮れ前に森を出ました。空気はひんやりとし、木々の上にオレンジ色の光が差し込んでいました。彼らは今回の成果に満足していました。生き物たちは無事で、村人たちの不安も解消されたのです。
「思ったよりうまくいったな」ダレンは腕を伸ばして言いました。「剣も使わずにすんだし」
レンは笑いました。「君の心を使ったんだ。それが一番強いよ」
2人は並んで、細い森道を歩きました。鳥が静かにさえずり、風に葉が揺れています。すべてが穏やかに思えました。
…そのとき、レンが立ち止まりました。
「どうした？」ダレンが尋ねました。
レンの目が鋭くなります。「何かが…僕たちを見てる」
ダレンは周りを見渡し、剣に手をかけました。「見えないけど…？」
レンは目を閉じ、心で感じ取ろうとします。そこには…冷たい思考、暗いささやきがありました。
「危険だ…」
レンは目を開きました。「木の間に何かがいる。さっきの小さな生き物たちとは違う。これは…怒ってる」
ダレンは背中合わせに構えました。「襲ってくると思うか？」
答える間もなく、黒い影が木々の間をすばやく走り抜けました。まるで爪のある影のように。
「あそこだ！」ダレンが叫び、剣を抜きました。
木から飛び出してきたのは、大きな体に赤い目、鋭い歯を持つ生き物でした。唸り声を上げ、葉が揺れるほどの音を立てます。
レンは前に出て言いました。「待って！話ができる？」
生き物は唸りながらも、攻撃はしてきません。レンの声に戸惑っているようでした。
レンは集中し、その心の声を聞こうとします。感じたのは――痛み、怒り…そして恐怖。
「傷ついてる」レンが言いました。「誰かに、何かに、こうされたんだ」
ダレンは剣を少し下げました。「助けられるか？」
「試してみる」レンは一歩前に出ました。
目を閉じ、手を差し出して、静かに語りかけます。「君は一人じゃない。僕たちは戦いに来たんじゃない」
生き物は低く唸りましたが、次第に動きを止めました。ゆっくりと後退し、こちらを見たまま…静かに森の中へ消えていきました。
レンは大きく息を吐きました。「…危なかった」
ダレンはレンを見て、驚きと尊敬のまなざしを向けました。「お前って…本当にすごいな」
レンはうなずきましたが、心の中では考えていました。あの生き物は、もともとあんな姿ではなかった。何かが、誰かが、変えてしまったのです。
そしてレンは初めて感じたのです。遠くに、でも確かにある――もっと暗く、もっと強い力。その力は、恐怖を広げようとしている。
「きっと向き合うことになる」レンは小さくささやきました。「…2人で」
