English Story (CEFR: A1)
One sunny day, Hana and Yuki are playing with blocks.
They are building a tall tower together.
"Let’s put this blue block on top," says Hana.
"No, the red one looks better!" says Yuki.
"But I like blue more," Hana says, frowning.
Yuki picks up the red block and puts it on the tower. The tower falls down!
"Oh no!" Hana shouts. "Why did you do that?"
"I just wanted to help!" Yuki says, looking upset.
Hana crosses her arms. "I don’t want to play anymore."
Yuki looks at the floor. "Me neither."
They sit apart, feeling sad.
After a while, Emi comes and says, "Let’s play together!"
Hana looks at Yuki. Yuki looks at Hana.
Hana stands up. "I’m sorry I got mad."
Yuki smiles a little. "I’m sorry I didn’t listen."
They both laugh. "Let’s build it again!"
This time, they use both the red and blue blocks.
The tower is taller than before, and both girls are happy.

ある晴れた日。ハナとユキはブロックで遊んでいました。
ふたりで大きなタワーを作っています。
「この青いブロックをいちばん上に置こうよ」とハナが言いました。
「だめだよ、赤のほうがきれいだもん」とユキが言いました。
「でも、私は青のほうが好きだよ」とハナがむっとします。
ユキが赤いブロックを取って、タワーの上に置きました。すると…バサッ！ タワーがくずれてしまいました！
「あーあ！」とハナが叫びました。「なんで勝手にやっちゃうの！」
「わたし、手伝いたかっただけなのに…」ユキはしょんぼりします。
ハナは腕を組んで言いました。「もう、遊びたくない」
ユキもつぶやきました。「わたしもだよ…」
ふたりは少しはなれて、しょんぼり座っていました。
しばらくして、エミがやってきました。「ねえ、いっしょに遊ぼうよ！」
ハナがユキを見ました。ユキもハナを見ました。
ハナが立ち上がって言いました。「さっきは怒ってごめんね」
ユキがちょっと笑って言いました。「わたしも、ハナの話を聞かなくてごめん」
ふたりは顔を見合わせて、クスッと笑いました。「もう一回、作ろうよ！」
こんどは、赤いブロックと青いブロック、どっちも使って作りました。
タワーはさっきよりもっと高くなって、ふたりともとってもうれしそうでした。
