Hana and the Days of Her Life

Today is a special day. Hana and her class are going on a field trip.

"I’m so excited!" says Hana. She holds her small backpack tightly.

The children get on the bus. "Window seat!" says Yuki.

Hana sits next to her. "Look! Trees are going by fast!"

The teacher stands up. "Everyone, we are going to the zoo!"

"Yay!" shout the children.

At the zoo, they see many animals. "Wow, a big elephant!" says Emi.

"Look at the monkeys! They are funny!" says Hana.

Saki points. "That lion is sleeping in the sun."

They walk and walk, holding hands and smiling.

At lunchtime, they sit on a big mat under a tree.

"I have panda-shaped rice!" says Yuki.

"My mom made heart eggs!" says Hana proudly.

After lunch, they draw pictures of their favorite animals.

Hana draws a giraffe with a long neck and big eyes.

When it’s time to leave, Hana waves goodbye to the animals.

"Thank you, elephant! See you again, monkey!"

On the bus ride back, some children fall asleep.

Hana leans on Yuki's shoulder. "Today was the best day."

Yuki nods. "Let’s come again someday."

今日は特別な日。ハナたちのクラスは、はじめての遠足です。

「楽しみすぎる〜！」ハナはリュックをぎゅっとにぎりしめて言いました。

みんなでバスに乗ります。「窓ぎわがいいー！」とユキが言います。

ハナもとなりに座って、「見て見て！ 木がすごい速さで通りすぎてく！」

先生が立って言いました。「今日はみんなで動物園に行きますよー！」

「やったー！！」子どもたちは大はしゃぎです。

動物園につくと、たくさんの動物たちがいました。「うわぁ、大きいゾウさん！」とエミ。

「おサルさん、へんな顔してるー！」とハナが笑います。

サキが指をさして言いました。「あのライオン、ひなたぼっこして寝てるね」

みんなで手をつないで、にこにこしながら歩きました。

お昼ごはんは、大きな木の下でシートを広げて食べました。

「パンダの形のおにぎりだよ〜！」とユキ。

「ママがハートのたまご焼き作ってくれたの！」とハナも自慢げです。

お昼のあとは、いちばん好きだった動物の絵を描く時間。

ハナは首の長いキリンと、大きな目を描きました。

帰る時間になり、ハナは動物たちに手をふります。

「ゾウさん、ありがとう！ おサルさん、また来るね〜！」

帰りのバスでは、何人かのおともだちがうとうと眠ってしまいました。

ハナはユキの肩にもたれて言いました。「今日、ほんとうに楽しかったね…」

ユキもうなずいて、「また来ようね、ぜったい！」
