English Story (CEFR: A1)
It is raining today. The sky is gray. Raindrops fall on the windows. Hana holds a small yellow umbrella.
"Don’t forget your boots," says her mother.
Hana puts on her red boots. They go splash, splash in the puddles. She laughs and walks to kindergarten.
At the door, a teacher says, "Good morning, Hana!"
"Good morning!" Hana says. She puts her umbrella in the stand and takes off her boots.
Inside, it is warm and bright. Many children are already there. Yuki and Emi wave from a table.
"Come sit with us!" Yuki says.
Hana runs over and sits down. "It’s raining so much today," she says.
"Yeah," says Emi. "We can’t go outside."
"Let’s play inside!" says Hana.
The teacher brings out games, puzzles, and books. The three girls play a matching game. They take turns and clap when someone wins.
Later, the teacher says, "Let’s make paper boats!"
She shows them how to fold paper. Hana’s boat is red. Yuki’s is blue. Emi’s is green. They draw faces on them.
"Let’s give them names," says Yuki. "Mine is Captain Blue!"
"This is Miss Red Flower," says Hana.
"Mine is Sir Cookie," says Emi. They all laugh.
After lunch, the rain slows down. The teacher lets the children go outside with umbrellas.
Hana, Yuki, and Emi go to a puddle. "Let’s try our boats!"
They put the boats on the water. The little boats float and spin. The girls cheer. "Go, go, go!"
Hana watches the red boat and smiles. "Rainy days can be fun too."
When it’s time to go home, Hana waves to her friends. She holds her umbrella and walks home with her mother.
"Did you have fun today?" her mother asks.
"Yes! We made boats and played games. I like rainy days now!"
Raindrops fall softly. Hana hums a song and skips through a puddle.

今日は雨です。空は灰色。雨粒が窓にポツポツと落ちています。ハナは小さな黄色い傘を持っています。

ハナは走って行って、ふたりの隣に座りました。「今日はすごい雨だね」と言います。
「うん、外では遊べないね」とエミ。
「じゃあ、中で遊ぼう！」とハナが言いました。
先生がゲームやパズル、絵本をたくさん出してくれました。三人は絵合わせのカードゲームをしました。順番にやって、誰かが勝つと手をたたいて喜びました。
そのあと、先生が言いました。「みんなで紙のボートを作ろう！」
先生が紙の折り方を教えてくれました。ハナのボートは赤。ユキのは青。エミのは緑です。それぞれ顔を描きました。
「名前をつけよう！」とユキ。「私のはキャプテン・ブルー！」
「私はミス・レッドフラワー！」とハナ。
「ぼくのはサー・クッキー！」とエミ。みんなで笑いました。
お昼のあと、雨が少し弱まりました。先生が「傘を持って、外に出てもいいよ」と言ってくれました。
ハナ、ユキ、エミは水たまりのところへ行きました。「ボートを浮かべよう！」
3人は作ったボートを水に浮かべました。小さなボートがくるくる回りながらぷかぷか浮いています。みんなで「がんばれー！」「いけー！」と声をかけました。
ハナは赤いボートを見つめて、にっこり笑いました。「雨の日も、けっこう楽しいね」
帰る時間になって、ハナは友だちに手を振りました。傘を持って、お母さんと一緒に歩いて帰ります。
「今日は楽しかった？」とお母さんが聞きました。
「うん！ボートも作ったし、ゲームもしたし、雨の日っていいね！」
雨のしずくがやさしく落ちてきます。ハナは小さな歌を口ずさみながら、水たまりをぴょんと飛びました。
