English Story (CEFR: A1)
“Are you ready for the sleepover, Hana?” Mom asks.
Hana nods. “Yes! I’m going to Yuki’s house!”
She packs pajamas, her toothbrush, and her bear Lucky.
At Yuki’s house, the girls eat dinner with Yuki’s parents.
They laugh and play games. It’s so much fun!
At bedtime, they lie in sleeping bags on the floor.
“Good night,” says Yuki.
“Good night,” says Hana. But she cannot sleep.
She looks at the dark ceiling. “I miss my mom…”
She hugs Lucky tightly. A tear comes to her eye.
Yuki hears a sniffle. “Hana? Are you okay?”
“I think so… I just miss home a little,” Hana says softly.
Yuki smiles and holds Hana’s hand.
“I was scared on my first sleepover too. But now I like it.”
“Really?”
“Yes! And I’m here with you.”
Hana feels warm inside. She closes her eyes.
In the morning, the sun shines through the window.
Hana wakes up smiling. “I did it!”
Yuki laughs. “Let’s have pancakes!”

「ハナ、お泊まりの準備できた？」とママが聞きました。
「うん！今日はユキのおうちだよ！」とハナ。
パジャマ、歯ブラシ、そしてクマのぬいぐるみ“ラッキー”をかばんに入れます。
ユキの家では、ユキのパパとママといっしょに晩ごはん。
笑ったり、ゲームをしたり、とっても楽しい夜です。
寝る時間になり、ふたりは床に寝袋をしいて寝ました。
「おやすみ」とユキ。
「おやすみ…」とハナ。でもなかなか眠れません。
天井を見つめながら、「ママに会いたいな…」と小さくつぶやきます。
ラッキーをぎゅっと抱きしめ、ぽろっと涙が出ました。
ユキがその音に気づいて、「ハナ？だいじょうぶ？」
「うん…ちょっとだけ、うちが恋しくて…」とハナ。
ユキはにっこり笑って、ハナの手をにぎりました。
「わたしも、はじめてのお泊まりのときこわかったよ。でも、だんだん好きになったの」
「ほんとに？」
「うん！だって今は、ハナといっしょだもん」
ハナの心がぽかぽかになって、目を閉じました。
朝、日差しが窓から入ってきます。
ハナはにっこり目を覚まして、「できた！」
ユキも笑って、「パンケーキ食べよう！」
