English Story (CEFR: A1)
It is raining today. The sky is gray, and the playground is wet.
"Oh no, we can’t play outside," says Hana.
Yuki looks out the window. "So many puddles!"
The teacher claps her hands. "Let’s play inside today!"
The children make paper boats with colored paper.
"Mine is yellow!" says Hana. "Mine has a heart!" says Emi.
Then, they build a castle with big blocks.
"This is the tower," says Yuki. "This is the gate," says Saki.
Hana puts a doll inside. "She’s the queen!"
They all bow to the doll. "Hello, your majesty!"
Later, the teacher brings out musical bells.
"Let’s play a song together!" she says.
Each child has one bell. Ding, dong, ding!
The music sounds like rain falling softly.
"It’s like a rain song," Hana whispers.
The children smile and listen quietly.
When it’s time to go home, the rain has stopped.
"Look! A rainbow!" Yuki shouts.
They all run to the window. Hana smiles.
"Today was rainy... but fun!"

今日は雨の日。空はどんより、園庭もびしょぬれです。
「あーあ、お外で遊べないや…」とハナ。
ユキが窓の外を見て、「水たまりがいっぱい！」
先生が手をたたいて言いました。「今日はお部屋でいっぱい遊びましょうね！」
みんなで色紙を使って、紙のふねを作ります。
「わたしのは黄色だよ！」とハナ。「わたしのはハートの模様つき！」とエミ。
次は、大きなブロックでお城づくりです。
「ここが塔ね」とユキ。「ここが入り口だよ」とサキ。
ハナがお人形を中に入れて言いました。「この子がおひめさま！」
みんなでおじぎして、「おひめさま、こんにちは～！」
そのあと、先生が音の出るベルを出してきました。
「みんなで音楽をならしてみましょう！」
ひとりひとつベルをもらって、「チン、ドン、チン！」
ベルの音が、しとしと雨のようにやさしくひびきます。
「なんだか雨の歌みたいだね」とハナがささやきました。
みんな、にこにこして静かに耳をすませます。
帰るころには、雨が止んでいました。
「見て！ 虹が出てる！」とユキが叫びます。
みんな窓のところへ走っていき、ハナもにっこり。
「雨だったけど、今日は楽しかったな」
