A Day Full of Phrasal Verbs
This morning, I got up later than usual because I stayed up last night working on a project. As soon as I woke up, I checked out the weather and realized it was raining, so I had to look for my umbrella. I threw on my favorite hoodie, packed up my bag, and headed out the door. On my way to school, I ran into my neighbor who pointed out that I’d forgotten my lunch. I quickly went back to pick up my lunchbox, then caught up with my friend at the bus stop. We talked about everything that had come up in our lives recently, and we both laughed at some silly stories.
When we got on the bus, I looked for a seat and sat down next to a classmate who was trying to work out a tough math problem. I offered to help out, and together we figured out the answer. At school, our teacher handed out worksheets and told us to fill them out. If we didn’t understand something, we could ask for help. During group work, I tried not to fall behind or mess up the presentation, so I wrote down some notes and went over them with my group. At lunch, my friends and I hung out in the courtyard, talked over weekend plans, and joked around until it was time to head back to class.
In the afternoon, we had to deal with a surprise quiz. I looked over the questions, tried to work through them one by one, and turned in my paper on time. After school, I met up with a friend to go over our science project. We split up the tasks so we could keep up with the deadline. On the way home, I stopped by the store to pick up some snacks, then ran into my sister who asked me to help out with dinner.
At home, I changed into comfy clothes and cleaned up my room. My parents asked me to take out the trash, so I put on my rain boots and carried out the garbage. After dinner, I caught up on homework, looked up some words online, and jotted down new ideas for my essay. Before bed, I laid out my clothes for tomorrow and set up an alarm. Finally, I turned off the lights, lay down in bed, and looked back on the busy day, feeling proud of everything I’d managed to get through. I’m ready to take on whatever comes up tomorrow.

今朝は昨夜プロジェクトに取り組んで夜更かししたので、いつもより遅く起きた。目が覚めるとすぐに天気を確認し、雨が降っていることに気づいたので傘を探した。お気に入りのパーカーをさっと羽織り、カバンを詰めて家を出た。学校へ行く途中、隣人にばったり会い、昼食を忘れていることを指摘されたので、すぐに家に戻ってお弁当を取りに帰り、その後バス停で友達に追いついた。お互い最近あったことを話し合い、くだらない話で笑い合った。
バスに乗ると席を探してクラスメートの隣に座った。彼は難しい数学の問題を解こうとしていたので、手伝いを申し出て一緒に答えを導き出した。学校では先生がプリントを配り、それを記入するように言われた。わからないことがあれば助けを求めていいと言われた。グループワークでは遅れないよう、発表を失敗しないようにメモを取ってグループで確認した。昼休みには中庭で友達と集まり、週末の計画を話したり、ふざけて遊んだりして過ごし、また授業に戻った。
午後はサプライズ小テストに取り組むことになった。問題を見直し、一つずつ解いて、時間通りに提出した。放課後は友人と待ち合わせて理科のプロジェクトを確認し、締切に遅れないように作業を分担した。帰り道ではお店に寄ってお菓子を買い、妹にばったり会って夕食の手伝いを頼まれた。
家に帰ると楽な服に着替えて部屋を片付けた。両親に頼まれてゴミを出すことになり、レインブーツを履いてゴミを外に運び出した。夕食後は宿題を進め、ネットで単語を調べ、エッセイの新しいアイデアを書き留めた。寝る前に明日の服を用意し、アラームをセット。最後に明かりを消してベッドに横になり、慌ただしい一日を振り返って、やり切った自分を少し誇りに思った。明日もどんなことがあっても乗り越えられそうだと感じている。
