A School Day Full of Phrasal Verbs
I woke up to the sound of rain tapping on my window, so I quickly got out of bed and looked for my umbrella. After I put on my school uniform, I went down to the kitchen, where Mom was already making breakfast. We talked about the weather and today’s plans as I sat down at the table. Before leaving, I packed up my backpack, trying not to leave out any homework. My sister tried to sneak out without her raincoat, but Dad called her back and made her put it on.
When I headed out the door, my dog ran after me, so I had to go back and give him a treat. On my way to the bus stop, I ran into my neighbor and we caught up on the latest school news. I nearly missed out on the bus, but the driver waited for me. On the bus, my friend and I talked over our plans for the school festival and laughed at some funny memories from last year. When we got to school, the rain had almost let up, so we went in together.
In homeroom, our teacher handed out new schedules and told us to fill them out carefully. If anyone came across a confusing part, we could ask for help. In math, I tried to keep up with the lesson, but when I got stuck, I asked my friend for advice and she talked me through the problem. After class, I wrote down my homework and looked over my notes. At lunch, I hung out with my friends in the corridor. We joked around and made up silly stories, then went back to class when the bell went off.
In the afternoon, we worked on our group science project and split up the tasks. I had to look up some facts and write down results. If anyone fell behind, the group helped them catch up. Before school let out, our teacher went over tomorrow’s schedule and reminded us of upcoming deadlines. After the final bell, I packed up my bag, headed home through puddles, and looked forward to relaxing after such a busy but satisfying day.
