Phrasal Verbs in a Busy Day
I usually get up at six, but today I slept through my alarm and only woke up when my phone went off with a text from my friend. I quickly jumped out of bed, threw on some clothes, and tried to make up for lost time. In my rush, I almost left behind my wallet, but my mom called out from the kitchen to remind me of it. I grabbed my things, ran down the stairs, and headed out the door just as the bus pulled up. I got on and looked around for a seat, only to find out that my best friend had saved me one at the back. We caught up on each other's lives as the bus pulled away from the stop.
At school, the teacher handed out a quiz and told us to fill it out without talking. I went over the questions carefully and tried not to mess up any answers. After class, I ran into a classmate who wanted to talk over our group project. We decided to meet up in the library later. During lunch, my friends and I sat down together and chatted about the funniest things that had come up that week. One of them had come down with a cold, so we all looked out for him and made sure he had some medicine. I also checked in on another friend who was struggling with a difficult subject, offering to help out after school.
After lunch, we had a group project to work on. Our teacher told us not to fall behind and to keep up with the deadline. We split the tasks and agreed to hand in our parts by Friday. Sometimes our ideas clash with each other, but we always try to work out a compromise. At the end of the day, I packed up my bag and headed off to the library to meet up with my classmate. We looked up information online and wrote down notes for our project. Time flew by so quickly that we almost missed out on the school bus home.
When I finally got home, I kicked off my shoes and plopped down on the couch. My little brother ran over to show off his latest drawing, so I cheered him on. After that, I took care of the dishes and cleaned up the kitchen. For dinner, my parents let me help out with cooking, so I chopped up vegetables while my mom fried up some chicken. We sat down together to enjoy the meal and went over everyone’s day. My dad told a story about how he ran into an old friend at work and they caught up on old times.
After dinner, I went back to my room and caught up on homework. When I got stuck on a math problem, I looked it up online and then called up a friend for help. We went over the steps together and I finally figured out the answer. Before bed, I laid out my clothes for tomorrow and set up my alarm. As I turned off the lights and lay down to sleep, I thought about all the things that had come up during the day. I felt proud of what I’d managed to deal with and looked forward to taking on new challenges tomorrow.

普段は6時に起きるけれど、今日は目覚ましに気づかず寝過ごし、友達からのメッセージでやっと目が覚めた。急いでベッドを飛び出し、服をさっと着て遅れを取り戻そうとした。慌てて財布を忘れかけたが、キッチンから母が声をかけて思い出させてくれた。荷物をつかんで階段を駆け下り、ちょうどバスが来たタイミングで家を出た。バスに乗り込んで席を探すと、親友が後ろの席を取ってくれていた。バスが発車するまでお互いの近況を話した。
学校では先生が小テストを配り、静かに記入するよう言った。私は問題を丁寧に確認して、ミスしないように気をつけた。授業後、グループプロジェクトについて話したいというクラスメイトにばったり会い、後で図書館で会う約束をした。昼休みには友達と一緒に座り、今週起こった面白い話題で盛り上がった。一人は風邪を引いていたので、皆で気にかけて薬を渡した。難しい教科で苦戦している友人にも声をかけ、放課後に手伝うと約束した。
昼食後はグループ課題に取り組んだ。先生からは遅れないように、締め切りを守るよう言われた。タスクを分担し、金曜までに提出すると決めた。意見がぶつかることもあるが、いつも何とか折り合いをつけるよう努めている。放課後、カバンをまとめて図書館へ行き、クラスメイトと調べ物をしてノートを取った。時間があっという間に過ぎて、危うくスクールバスに乗り遅れそうになった。
やっと家に帰ると、靴を脱いでソファにどさっと座った。弟が新しい絵を見せびらかしに走ってきたので、私は応援した。その後、食器を片付けてキッチンを掃除した。夕食は両親と一緒に作り、私は野菜を切って母が鶏肉を炒めた。みんなでテーブルを囲んで食事し、それぞれの一日を振り返った。父は職場で昔の友人に偶然会い、昔話に花を咲かせたという話をしてくれた。
夕食後、自分の部屋に戻って宿題の続きをした。数学の問題でつまずいた時はネットで調べて、友達に電話して助けてもらった。手順を一緒に確認し、やっと解き方がわかった。寝る前に明日の服を用意し、アラームをセットした。明かりを消して横になりながら、今日起こったことを思い返した。色々乗り越えた自分を少し誇りに思い、明日新しい挑戦に立ち向かうのを楽しみにした。
