Story (CEFR: A1)
Today was the first day of high school. Kumicho stood in front of the school gate, holding his bag with both hands. His hair was short, his face looked a little scary, and his eyes were very sharp. But inside, Kumicho was a kind and quiet boy. People often misunderstood him.

As he walked into the building, students moved out of his way. "Is he a delinquent?" "Is he the boss of a gang?" he heard whispers. Kumicho felt sad but didn’t say anything. He just wanted to find his classroom: 1-C.

At the front of classroom 1-C, Kumicho saw two familiar faces. One was Najimi, his childhood friend. She had a bright smile and short hair. The other was Itao, his other childhood friend. Itao looked confident and was fixing his hair in a small mirror.

“Yo! Boss!” Itao waved. He always called Kumicho "Boss" as a joke. “Looking scary as usual! You’ll rule the class, ha ha!” Najimi giggled. “Morning, Kumicho. Let’s do our best today!”
