English Story (CEFR: A1)
Hana is a little girl. She is five years old. She lives in a small town with her mother and father.
Today is a big day for Hana. It is her first day at kindergarten. She wears a red backpack and new shoes. Her mother holds her hand. They walk to the school together.
"Are you excited?" her mother asks.
"Yes," Hana says, but she feels a little scared. There are many new faces. Some children cry. Some children smile. Everything is new and a little loud.
The teacher comes and says, "Good morning, everyone! Welcome!"
Hana looks at her mother. Her mother smiles and says, "You will have fun. I’ll come back soon."
Hana walks into the room. She sees toys and books. She sees a girl sitting alone. Hana slowly walks to her and says, "Hi. I’m Hana."
The girl looks up. "Hi. I’m Yuki," she says.
They smile. They play with blocks together. They make a big tower and laugh when it falls down.
Time goes fast. Soon, it is time to go home. Hana runs to her mother.
"Did you have fun?" her mother asks.
"Yes! I made a friend!" Hana says. She is happy and tired.
That night, Hana eats dinner and talks about Yuki. She wants to go to kindergarten again tomorrow.
It was a small day. But for Hana, it was the start of something big.

ハナは小さな女の子です。5歳です。お母さんとお父さんと一緒に、小さな町に住んでいます。
今日はハナにとって特別な日です。幼稚園の初登園の日なのです。赤いランドセルと新しい靴を履いています。お母さんと手をつないで、一緒に歩いて学校へ向かいます。
「楽しみ？」とお母さんが聞きました。
「うん」とハナは答えましたが、少し不安な気持ちでした。初めて見る子たちがたくさんいます。泣いている子もいれば、にこにこしている子もいます。すべてが初めてで、ちょっとうるさく感じました。
先生がやってきて、「おはようございます！ようこそ！」と元気に言いました。
ハナはお母さんの顔を見ました。お母さんは笑って、「きっと楽しいよ。すぐ迎えに来るからね」と言いました。
ハナは教室に入りました。おもちゃや絵本が見えました。一人で座っている女の子がいました。ハナはゆっくり近づいて、「こんにちは。ハナっていうの」と話しかけました。
女の子が顔を上げて、「こんにちは。ユキだよ」と答えました。
二人は笑い合って、積み木で遊びました。高いタワーを作って、それが崩れたときには二人で笑いました。
時間はあっという間に過ぎて、帰る時間になりました。ハナはお母さんのところへ走っていきました。
「楽しかった？」とお母さんが聞きました。
「うん！お友だちができたの！」とハナは言いました。嬉しくて、でもちょっと疲れていました。
その夜、ハナは夕ご飯を食べながらユキの話をたくさんしました。「また明日も幼稚園に行きたいな」と言いました。
小さな一日。でもハナにとっては、大きな始まりの一日でした。
