Lesson 53: Exclamatory Sentences and Interjections
This lesson introduces how to form exclamatory sentences to express strong emotions like surprise, admiration, or joy, and common interjections used in Chinese.
Forming Exclamatory Sentences:
太~了! (Tài...le!): "Too...!", "So...!", "Extremely...!" Used with adjectives to express a high degree.
Example: 太好了! (Tài hǎo le! - Great! / Excellent!)
真~(啊)! (Zhēn...(a)!): "Really...!", "Truly...!" Used with adjectives or psychological verbs, often with "啊 (a)" at the end.
Example: 你真聪明啊! (Nǐ zhēn cōngming a! - You are really smart!)
好~(啊)! (Hǎo...(a)!): "How...!", "So...!" (Here "好" is an adverb of degree, not "good"). Often with "啊 (a)".
Example: 好漂亮啊! (Hǎo piàoliang a! - How beautiful!)
多~(啊)! (Duō...(a)!): "How...!", "To what extent...!" (Here "多" is an adverb of degree). Often with "啊 (a)".
Example: 这儿的风景多美啊! (Zhèr de fēngjǐng duō měi a! - How beautiful the scenery here is!)
Common Interjections (感叹词 - gǎntàncí): Short exclamatory words expressing spontaneous feelings.
啊 (ā, á, ǎ, à): Oh, ah (surprise, realization, response, etc. - very versatile).
